CTO as a Service

As you grow, technology becomes a business decision, not just support.

Most growing businesses reach a point where they need technology leadership, but cannot justify a full-time CTO. Astek gives you experienced, on-demand technology leadership: strategy, a roadmap, cybersecurity oversight and a team that delivers. Enterprise-level leadership, without enterprise-level overhead.

No obligation • A short discovery conversation to start

The technology gap

Your IT keeps the business running. But who decides where it should go?

Most growing businesses have one of two setups: an internal IT team focused on daily operations, or outsourced IT support. Both matter. Neither is meant to answer the strategic questions.

Internal IT team

Focused on keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly, not on long-term technology direction.

Outsourced IT support

Reliable for support and fixes, but not accountable for your strategy, roadmap or investments.

Questions your IT setup probably isn’t answering

  • Are we investing in the right technology?
  • Is our cybersecurity posture adequate?
  • Are our IT systems helping or slowing growth?
  • Is our data secure and recoverable?
  • Are we prepared for AI, automation and digital transformation?
  • What should our roadmap look like for the next three years?

These are leadership questions, not support questions.

What a CTO does

Connecting business goals to technology decisions

A good CTO makes sure technology serves the business, not the other way around.

Build technology roadmaps

A costed, prioritised plan for the next one to three years.

Evaluate investments

Independent judgement on what to buy, keep, or retire.

Improve cybersecurity posture

Security addressed by risk and obligation, not guesswork.

Drive automation

Spot and lead automation that removes cost and effort.

Manage technology risk

See and reduce the risks hiding across the estate.

Scalability & continuity

Systems that grow with you and recover when needed.

Align IT spend to goals

Every rupee of technology spend tied to business value.

Vendor & solution evaluation

The right vendors, chosen and managed independently.

The model

Experienced technology leadership, on demand

Why it’s growing

All the leadership. None of the full-time overhead.

Many businesses benefit enormously from access to experienced technology leadership, without the cost of hiring a senior executive full time.

  • Strategic technology guidance
  • Independent decision-making support
  • Vendor & solution evaluation
  • Cybersecurity oversight
  • Digital transformation leadership
  • Cost optimisation recommendations

The hidden cost

Spending on technology is easy. Making it work together is the hard part.

Many organisations spend heavily on software, infrastructure, cloud, security tools and IT resources, yet few have someone responsible for making those investments pull toward one business objective. The result:

Technology silos

Systems that don’t talk to each other or to the business.

Duplicate investments

Paying more than once for overlapping tools and capabilities.

Security gaps

Blind spots no single owner is watching for.

Unplanned downtime

Avoidable outages that interrupt the business.

Slow decision-making

Choices that drag because no one owns the call.

Missed automation

Efficiency left on the table year after year.

Technology becomes an expense, rather than a growth enabler.

The comparison

Full-time CTO vs CTO as a Service

Full-time CTO

  • High fixed salary and overhead
  • Hard to find and retain
  • A single person’s perspective
  • Full cost even when workload dips
  • You still build the delivery team

CTO as a Service

  • Pay for the scope you need
  • Senior experience, available now
  • Vendor-neutral, broad exposure
  • Scales up and down with demand
  • Backed by an in-house delivery team

Why Astek is different

Most advisors stop at the recommendation. We can build it too.

Because Astek delivers infrastructure, cybersecurity and networking in-house, the strategy we set is the strategy we can implement, so advice becomes working systems, under one accountable roof.

The bigger picture

The future belongs to technology-led businesses.

AI, automation, cybersecurity, cloud and data-driven decisions are no longer optional, they are boardroom discussions. The businesses that gain the most won’t be those that spend the most. They will be the ones that make the smartest decisions. And smart technology decisions require leadership.

Enterprise-level technology leadership, without enterprise-level overhead

Priced on the scope you need, an advisory retainer, a project, or a programme, not a full-time salary.

Questions, answered

CTO as a Service FAQ

What is CTO as a Service?

It gives your business access to experienced technology leadership without hiring a full-time CTO. We connect business goals to technology decisions, set strategy, build a roadmap, oversee cybersecurity and guide delivery, on a flexible, as-needed basis.

Isn't that what our IT team or IT provider already does?

They keep day-to-day operations running, which is essential. But strategic questions, the right investments, cybersecurity posture, a three-year roadmap, readiness for AI and automation, are leadership questions, not support questions. That is the gap we fill.

How is it different from hiring a consultant?

A consultant usually advises and leaves. As your CTO as a Service, we own technology direction over time and, uniquely, can also implement it with our own engineering team, so advice becomes working systems.

Do you replace our existing vendors?

No. We bring order to them. We evaluate solutions, remove duplication and manage vendors against a common architecture, so you keep the specialists that work while gaining a single point of technology accountability.

Is this only for startups?

No. It suits growing SMBs, multi-location businesses, and founder-led companies where technology has become too important to manage vendor by vendor.

Do you also implement, or only advise?

Both. Because Astek delivers infrastructure, cybersecurity and networking in-house, we can execute the roadmap end to end or work alongside your existing team.

How is it priced?

On the scope you need, an advisory retainer, a project, or a programme, rather than a full executive salary. Enterprise-level leadership without enterprise-level overhead.

How do we get started?

A short discovery conversation. We learn your business, current setup and priorities, then recommend a sensible first step.

Every growing business may not need a full-time CTO. But every growing business needs technology leadership.

Tell us where you are today, and we’ll suggest a practical first step.
